I just did a bat job where the bats where entering the attic space thru a hole where the dormer window roof meets the main roof. I rolled flashing material into a long tube and ran it down the slope of the roof and then put an elbow down over the gutter to 12" section of flashing rolled in a tube. After seeing this I thought why not use gutter down spout for this type of situation. Has anyone ever tried this? Did it work? Let me know. Thanks

I usually seal with spray foam or aluminum screening or flashing . Bats can get in thee a quarter inch size hole but can't knaw through things but can pull at stuff if not secured well.

The stuff you mentioned are things I use after the bats have been removed. Someone just can't seal up a group of bats in a home.

Why not Deke, would it drive them batty or something???

I was thinking you meant after they are gone. I always sit above the entrance point wait till all have flown out seal off then remove any that remain by hand.

I often use empty caulking tubes. Easy to cut to fit any place, any angle, and tape or staple in place.
They go out the tube but can't figure out how to get back in.

The other thing I use is a tarp taped over a gable vent that hangs about 2' lower than the lowest louver.

You cant just wait for them to fly out. Not all bats go out every night. Also you need to understand the Blackout period. And weather you are dealing with a maternity or bachelor colony.
It is illegal to kill bats and with White Nose coming in we need to do what we can to protect them.
I leave my excluders in for a week before the final seal up. All gaps are screened. I have seen mice get through the same holes the bats are using. And though rare, bats can chew through foam.
Especially if you sealed a maternity colony. Foam needs to be glazed or it will fall apart in a couple years.
