you start of with the coon cuff a hamer and a canister of some kind like a old coffee can, soup or some can that the coon cuff will fit in


here i am using a piece of pvc pipe but i have also used coffee cans when trapping in wet areas were you want to keep the bait dry



pick you place for the set the place the bait in your container then put the trap over the container like such



then pound your stake in until it will hold the trap in place like this





this is not so tight that it will not pull out when something gets in it but you want it tight enough so that they wont knock it over

That looks like a genius idea. I've just always gone through the trouble of wackin with the hatchet a hole in the ground. Pain in the butt with frozen ground! Do you catch a lot of coons with that method?

in fact gush i learned that set from the fur buyer in wahoo out of his 12 sets he was catching between 8-11 every night i was like you though i always hacked a hole in the ground for the trap

This is a great example of how the knowledge is shared on WAT. I have used the coon cuff for a few seasons and it always had to be in a "certain" type of location to make the set so it was stable. Now I see another way to use it without having to look for such places. Thanks very much Claybuster for sharing this bit of knowledge.

Question - So, I'm guessing that since the stake is not pounded all that far into the ground that the trap is connected to a drag/clog/ or other stake, would that be correct??

It don't look like thee's THAT much of the stake sticking out. Use a long enough 1, and it will hold like that.
